I have gopherd built and it appears to be running, but it will not serve up its directory properly and spits out a bunch of junk in the Console. I dont know if it is just the formatting of this error message, but the "no.domain.name" is tacked on the end of my domain for some reason....sorry for my lack of familiarity, but could this be part of the problem?
