This was 1k3r//2Q/1p/5p1R/6r/2p4K// for those who missed it. First, I might mention that although my current rating is 2050, I'm quite out of practice so my evaluation may have to be taken with a grain of salt. I doubt that the nature of my remarks will help much (I won't give explicit variations ince the game appears to be still in progress). I don't see how the ending will turn into Q vs R with best play; in fact, the only reasonable Q vs R endgame I found was Q vs R+P in a rather difficult position where it was not clear that the Queen could make any progress. In any event, that line does not appear to be best play; in fact, I don't see how Black can achieve an ending so favorable as a normal Q vs R (with no Pawns) ending with best play by White. [This endgame is not so easy as its reputation may lead you to believe]. Since this answers the statement of your question, I won't go any further. If you want my reasoning, I will be glad to tell you after the game has completed. Bruce C.
