One neat thing to do is to hit the monster, step back, hit him, step back, etc. You can beat any monster this way if you have a decent weapon. Haste self works in the same way. Beware that the monster gets the first hit after you use the slow monster stick. Every time I play rogue, I execute the following litle csh routine (in addition to setting ROGUEOPTS, of course). setenv TERMCAP "query3:li#18:co#64:tc=${term}:" set term = "query3" You may have to modify this to your system. I haven't had any food problems since I started doing this. Also searching now is VERY easy. Long scroll names will mess up your display and ^L doesn't help.
