The Supreme Court of the United States' automated docket--the Court's case-tracking system--is now available on the Court's website, www.supremecourtus.gov. Website users may access information about cases, both pending and decided, for both the current and preceding Terms. The Court's Term begins on the first Monday in October and ends on the preceding day the next year. Docket entries and changes in case status will generally be reflected on the day after they occur. Users can search for cases by clicking on the "Docket" prompt on the home page and using a Supreme Court docket number, a lower court docket number, or a case name. The format for Supreme Court docket numbers is "Term year-number" (e.g., 99-123; 00-45; 00-5001). It is also possible to access case information by conducting word searches. The Supreme Court's website was launched on April 17, 2000, to make Court information available via the Internet to the Bar, the public, and the news media.
