On 4/11/07, Cameron Kaiser <spectre@floodgap.com> wrote:
> > https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351748
> > (Remove UI for Gopher proxy settings)
>
> Wow, this sucks. Everyone get on this and complain. It's the slippery
> slope to removal. Thanks for pointing it out, and kudos to Aaron for
> jumping on it also.

Well, I finally wrote a complaint. Hope this is going to calm down a
little bit the will of the reporter to remove the UI for Gopher proxy
settings.

> > https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158888
> > (implement better handling for gopher on non default ports)
>
> Voted. I'm not even sure why they did this that way.

I recently found this: gopher://sipb.mit.edu/1B:Internet%20whois%20servers
The result with Mozilla derivatives is bad :(

> > https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=273459
> > (most gopher-*.gif images are unused)
>
> Voted. This looks like a good solution to implement.

I had a look to these gifs (C:\Program
Files\mozilla.org\SeaMonkey\res\html under my Windows Millennium).
They're pretty nice. It would be nice if they were used, indeed.

> > https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202196
> > (wrong protocol for host names containing "gopher")
>
> I think I agree with the naysayers on this one. Although it would be nice
> to just type in gopher.floodgap.com and not get helsinki's *web* server,
> I think this is a case where the solution will be worse than the problem for
> many users.

Probably. I had hesitated a lot, but when I saw that Lynx was doing
this guess quite efficiently, I voted: how many websites begin with
http://gopher... ? But anyway, this probably is not so important and
indeed some newbies could whine if the bug was corrected.

> > https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=326034
> > (Gopher module shouldn't try to interpret text into URLs)
>
> This is mine! Vote for it! Aaron's the only other communicator recently of
> note.

Voted :)

> > Feel free to correct my English ;)
>
> I'm sure it's better than me speaking your native language

Bleh. I was expecting a comment like "oh, why do you say that? Your
English is better than perfect ".
:-p

> (what is it, anyway?).

Hmmm. Do you remember that you have a file in a foreign language
you'll put on floodgap in one of your next lives? ;)

> Thanks very much for posting these. I've got the relevant ones on my
> cc list now.

I think that given the opposition the bug will remain open for quite a
while. Since the assignee is also the reporter, I don't think he will
easily accept a wontfix, but anyway, now he's under surveillance :)
