Combat Team 2 (version 0.80) - README FILE

=========
1.0 About
=========

Combat Team 2 is a strategic game where you control a
team of 8 soldiers. You have to kill other team(s). The
game is quite similar to XCOM, but the this game contains
only those combats. And this game isn't an UFO game.

NOTE:
This version is FIRST "PUBLIC" release, DISTRIBUTE LIKE CRAZY !!

I'm looking for good graphicians/musicians, if you think that
you are able to make better graphics/musics for this game,
then let me know via email (hannuh@solutions.fi).

===========
2.0 Running
===========

Execute run.bat if you have a DPMI supporting OS if
not then run runtran.bat. Note to get run.bat working
under DOS you may need to load cwsdpmi
(which is in .\bin directory).
NOTE: I recommend you to start with run or runtran.

These files run.bat and runtran.bat automatically
start the detect.exe file what tries to detect
BLASTER environment variable, if it is not present
and you have a SoundBlaster compatible soundcard
then I recommend you to set the environment variable.
If detect displays wrong SoundCard "parameters"
then you have to modify BLASTER environment
variable.

----------------------------
2.1 Recompiling Combat Team 2
----------------------------

Easiest way to recompile CT2 is to run rhide from src directory
and compile/link CT2 project. RHIDE is available from a link in
www.delorie.com. I also have included a make file (makefile. in
/src directory) for DJGPP's make so you can recompile this game
without RHIDE by running make.
BTW, "full" recompiling takes quite a long time so be prepared
for idling for a few minutes. Personally I always use some kind
of diskcaching (like smartdrv.exe) to speed up the compiling.

-------------------------
2.2 Hardware requirements
-------------------------

* no soundcard
* mouse, currently just for the start menu & map select
* 386 processor (game is really slow with some 386s and 486s !)
* MCGA/VGA compatible display card
* about 8MBs of memory
* about 4 MBs of HD space

NOTE: The game will only be playable if you enough fast hardware ,
      I guess with 486+/66+ the game begins to be playable.

-----------------------
2.3 Hardware recommends
-----------------------

* fast Pentium
* fast PCI display card
* 16MBs of memory (with some diskcaching)
* SoundBlaster compatible soundcard

3.2 Credits & Greetings
-----------------------

Special thanks to Eric Jorgensen, author of Varmint's Audio Tools for
'allowing' Joel H. Hunter to write great Sound-Blaster library for GCC.
Thanks for both of you !

Thanks to Charles W Sandmann for greating great DPMI extender for DOS
(CWSDPMI). Without this program it would be much harder to distribute
this packet so that it would work on everyone.

Special thanks also for Tran a.k.a. Thomas Pytel for making PMODE 3.07.
And for Matthias Grimrath for PMODE DJ modifications

'Personal greetings' go to:

=================
4.0 Programs used
=================

-----------------
4.1 Programs used
-----------------

The following programs have been to make this game:
GCC 2.7.2, GCC 2.0 + RHIDE (IDE + great C/ASM/C++ compiler), which are
both available from links in www/ftp.delorie.com
DeluxePaint (marvellous paint program)
TheDraw (nice ANSI program)
Voc386 (great voice editor) + some windows voice programs

============================
5.0 My other coding projects
============================

I'm currently coding a TSE (Thunder Sound Engine) - music and digitized
voice engine. This engine will be much better than the game's current
sound engine, but I guess TSE never will be implement to this game.

I have also two other projects, first is XM player and the second
one is a tracker. I guess these projects won't be "completely" ready
until years's 1997 christmas !.

And the last words:
I hope you will enjoy the game, and for all coders -> happy coding time !

6.0 Troubleshooting
===================

Check out Q&A.TXT if you don't find the solution from there and
the trouble is worth of solving let me know about the problem
and I'll solve it if possible...

End of README.TXT :)
